Fund Strategy

The  Maneki Strategy provides access to a well-diversified portfolio of catastrophe bonds (“cat bonds”) which have traditionally benefited investors with non-correlated returns with an attractive risk-to-return profile. Cat bonds are debt instruments that allow insurers to transfer natural disaster risk to investors in exchange for an insurance premium. The performance of cat bonds depends mainly on the occurrence, or rather, non-occurrence of insured events such as natural catastrophes or man-made disasters.

Key Persons

Timothy Yip  – Lead Portfolio Manager

• With over 20 years of experience in reinsurance and ILS, Tim has worked globally across analytics, placement, and portfolio management for leading firms including Aon and Willis Towers Watson.
• Timothy played a key role in designing and placing the first five pan-Asia catastrophe bonds, facilitating over $200 million in Emerging Asia risk placements, and winning the Asia Insurance Initiative of the Year award in 2021.
• A qualified actuary (Fellow of the US and UK societies), Tim holds an Honors BSc in Actuarial Science and Economics from the University of Toronto.

Stefan K. Kräuchi – Co-Portfolio Manager and CEO of HSZ Group

• With 30+ years in asset management and 20+ years specializing in ILS, Stefan founded ILS Advisers, Asia’s first specialist ILS manager, and launched the Eurekahedge ILS Advisers Index, the industry’s leading ILS fund index.
• He co-manages ILS Diversified Ltd. And the Maneki UCITS Cat Bond Fund.
• Previously, he served on the executive board at Clariden Leu Bank and established one of Switzerland’s first ILS funds as CEO of AIG Fund Management.

Stéphane Julen, CFA – Senior Adviser

• With 25+ years in global asset management, Stéphane Julen, founder of Galix Investments, specializes in alternative investments, portfolio management, and manager selection.
• He has managed multi-manager portfolios, combining active strategy allocation with top-tier manager selection, and has extensive experience analyzing alternative funds from both quantitative and qualitative perspectives.
• A CFA Charterholder and Certified European Financial Analyst, he holds a Master’s in Finance from the University of Lausanne and is fluent in English, German, and French
